We are all very particular about cleaning in our house, but often, the cleaning remains limited to the areas accessible to visitors.

Our bedrooms also get a little attention when it comes to cleaning, but we often ignore the hotspot of germs, bacteria and impurities in our bedroom, i.e., our mattress.

An average adult spends around one-third of his life sleeping, which means the item we have our maximum exposure to is our mattress.

Besides sleeping, we also do other activities in bed, such as having a snack on a lazy weekend. Such things expose our bed to many things like food particles, water spillage and our own bodily fluids, etc. Mattress also receives enough dust and minimal sunlight as it remains covered, making it an ideal site for the growth of  harmful pathogens, mites, and sometimes even bed bugs.

All these factors require a frequent mattress cleaning service. But not all of us might want to go for it, so here is a tutorial on how to perform Mattress Cleaning Singapore so that you do not compromise on your health:

HOW TO CLEAN YOUR MATTRESS THE PROFESSIONAL WAY

When Do You Require a Mattress Cleaning Service?

So, how frequent is frequent cleaning? We realize that cleaning your mattress might not be your favorite thing to do, as it takes time, effort, and energy, but that is not a reason enough to avoid it.

We are listing some signs indicating that you require mattress cleaning here in Singapore. Although, the ideal would be that you get mattress cleaning service before these signs appear:

  1. When your mattress starts to smell odd.
  2. When your mattress feels damp at the spot.
  3. When your skin starts developing rashes or itches.
  4. When you start having infections, especially respiratory infections or breathing difficulties.
  5. When you notice bug bites on your skin.

How do you clean a mattress?

Cleaning a mattress is not simple. It gets multiple types of exposure and has required cleaning on multiple levels; You need to make it visibly clean, remove the dirt and dust, wash off the stains, deodorize and sanitize it and make it dry for use.

So continue reading as we describe the mattress cleaning  process step-by-step:

  1. Surface Cleaning:
Let’s begin with what’s visible to the eyes. Grab your vacuum cleaner with its nozzle attached, connect it, and we are ready.
Start to clean your mattress with your vacuum cleaner, giving enough time to each bit until it sucks out all the accumulated dust. You might need to give it more than one take if your vacuum cleaner is not that strong or your mattress has a lot of dust.
Once clean, let’s move towards the other step.
  2. Stain Removal:
The next step is removing the stubborn stains that have grabbed their place on your mattress. For this, you will need to mix your liquid soap in a bowl filled with water.
Once you have poured out the right quantities in your bowl, dissolve them well and make a nice leather. After that, take a spoon and put that leather on the stains to avoid excessively wetting your mattress.
Let the leather sit on the stain until it has settled down on the surface. Grab your toothbrush and start rubbing the stain gently. If it does not seem to be getting off, you might need to use more soap.
If the stain is stubborn, you might also consider putting a drop of liquid soap directly in the stain, followed by a few drops of water.
Once the stain starts to dissolve in the soap, start brushing a little hard to remove it from the surface altogether. Afterward, use a clean cloth to wipe it off.
  1. Fluid Stain Removal:
The previous step would work just fine for food and drink stains. But as it is a mattress, it is likely to have stains of bodily fluids like blood, urine, and sometimes vomit.
These stains are adamant and require a more chemical method of removal.
For such stains, pour hydrogen peroxide and liquid soap into a bowl in 2:1 and mix them.
Then, apply the cleaning agent on such stains and let them sit. You can also use it on the stains you could not completely take off in the previous step.
Afterward, brush the surface, remove the stain and clean the area with a clean cloth.
  2. Deodorizing:
After your mattress is clean, it is time to make it smell clean. For this, let your mattress sit and sprinkle some baking soda on the surface. Baking soda is a deodorizing agent and will suck out and absorb any odor from your mattress.
Make sure to cover the surface but don’t overdo it. Let the baking soda sit for a while. Afterward, suck it off using your vacuum cleaner.
  3. Drying:
If your mattress still has some wet spots, put it under a ceiling fan and leave the windows open. It will be ready to set up on the bed by night.

How to Prepare for Mattress Cleaning Singapore?

A mattress is not something you could just put in your washing machine for a deep wash or take to a car wash for thorough rinsing. It is a unique thing, and cleaning it will require special preparation.

You can start your preparation by making your mattress available. For this, you will have to take everything off of your mattress, including your pillows and bedsheets.

Next, you will need to put your mattress somewhere open where you can clean it without any obstructions to your hands and body. A living room or empty bedroom might be a good idea because in your washroom will be too damp and will expose your mattress to more pathogens.

Afterwards, you will have to prepare the equipment and collect the ingredients. Begin by attaching an upholstery brush to your vacuum cleaner and collect items like a big bowl, an old toothbrush, detergent or liquid soap, cleaning solutions like hydrogen peroxide, baking soda, and a clean piece of cloth.

For a professional mattress cleaning service, also use a steam cleaner, but you can skip it if you do not have one.
